BloodBowl Team Cyprus at EUROBOWL 2024

Blood Bowl is a tabletop fantasy sports game that blends elements of football and rugby, where teams of orcs, elves, dwarves, and other fantastical races clash in a brutal competition of touchdowns and chaos.

For over 20 years, EUROBOWL has brought together countries from across Europe in a tournament of Blood Bowl, where national teams compete for glory. This year marked the 15th EUROBOWL, held in Athens, Greece, from September 28-29, 2024.

For the first time ever, Cyprus fielded a team of 8 players, most of whom had only started playing the game around a year ago. As the new kids on the block, our main goal was to earn some respect and, of course, avoid coming in last place.

We succeeded in finishing 3rd from last, but the highlight of our tournament was our victory over Australia, which filled us with pride and truly put us on the map. Additionally, we were the team with the best casualty difference, meaning we excelled at knocking opponents off the pitch. However, as we learned the hard way, it's touchdowns that win games, not punches!

The experience overall was absolutely fantastic. With hundreds of players gathered, the atmosphere was electric, and the camaraderie was unmatched. The entire event was run by passionate Blood Bowl fans, and it was a massive success.

Looking forward, Cyprus is already aiming to compete in the next EUROBOWL in 2026 in Poland, hoping for even better results. But for now, our focus shifts to our local Cypriot league, which kicks off at the end of October and is open to anyone interested in joining—even complete newcomers!
